Alternative to urns
An urn is not the only option for transporting cremated remains.
For international transport, what matters most is that the container meets screening and handling requirements. This includes being non-metal, securely sealed, and suitable for x-ray inspection.
In some cases, families choose to use a simple container such as a reinforced cardboard or fibreboard box, provided it is strong, sealed, and appropriately packed inside an outer shipping container. These options are often used by funeral homes for transport purposes.
Containers made from solid metal, stone, ceramic, or other dense materials are generally not suitable, as they can interfere with security screening and delay transit.
