An option that can carry deep meaning for the families you serve
For some families, Africa is not just a place.
It represents ancestry, origin, history, and identity. When a loved one passes, the desire for part of them to return to the continent can hold deep emotional significance.
Scattering Africa exists to support families who feel this connection and are looking for a practical, respectful way to act on it after cremation.
Why this matters for your clients
Families do not always know this option exists.
Many would never think to ask, or may assume it is too complex or unrealistic.
By simply making the service known, you create space for a conversation that may be profoundly meaningful for certain clients, particularly those with ancestral or personal ties to Africa. For them, the ability to return a small portion of ashes to the continent can bring comfort, resolution, and a sense of continuity.
Your role
Your role is simple, but important.
You are not asked to manage, organise, or oversee the process.
You are not responsible for transport, permissions, or arrangements in Africa.
Your role would be to:
- Make the service known to families who may benefit from it
- Share the Scattering Africa website when interest is expressed
- Reinforce that the process is family-led and handled independently
That awareness alone can be enough to help a family feel seen and supported.
How it fits alongside your existing practice
The service operates using partial remains only.
This service is designed to sit comfortably alongside your normal cremation process.
Families will:
• Decide whether the service is right for them
• Determine the amount of ashes they wish to allocate
• Receive the usual documentation you already provide
• Take possession of the ashes in the normal way
From that point onward, all arrangements are handled directly between the family and Scattering Africa.
There is no change to your procedures and no added liability.
